How to Choose Right Oxygen Purity Analyzers?
We have recently seen a rise in demand for Oxygen Purity Analyzers due to on going pandemic.
Oxygen Purity Analysers are in great demand as they are used in sensing and control mechanism of Oxygen Generation Plants and Ventilators.
In these applications oxygen is measured in the range of 90 – 100 % volume.
There are many devices available in the market based on different measuring technologies.
The most popular once are based on Electrochemical Technology, Zirconia Technology and Paramagnetic Technology.
Before taking a decision on procurement there are few technical and commercial aspects which everyone should look for.
Technically we should look for Accuracy, Drift , Repeatability, Cross Sensitivity, Response Time and Life of a sensor. Also the effect of temperature and pressure on sensor and the maximum pressure and temperature the sensor can withstand are other consideration factors.
Electrochemical sensors have higher drift with time and hence needs frequent calibration for accurate readings compared to paramagnetic and Zirconia sensors, where drift with respect to time in minimum.
Electrochemical sensor have very short Shelf Life of around 3 to 6 months compared to infinite shelf life of Zirconia and Paramagnetic sensors.
Electrochemical sensor life is around 12 to 24 months compared to Zirconia sensor which lasts upto 5 years. Paramagnetic sensor have more than 7 years life span.
Though Electrochemical sensors are accurate enough for this application, Zirconia and Paramagnetic sensors are more accurate and Paramagnetic sensor is the most accurate sensor at these ranges of oxygen volume measurements. Zirconia sensor output being inversely proportional to partial pressure of oxygen is more accurate in analysis of oxygen in trace levels.
Zirconia and Paramagnetic technology are used for continuous monitoring applications while Electrochemical Technology his more suitable for taking intermittent monitoring.
Cost wise Electrochemical sensor based Oxygen Purity Analysers are quite economic when compared to Zirconia or Paramagnetic sensor based Oxygen Purity Analyzers.
