Dust monitoring system – The Bhoomi Factor

Dust monitoring system – The Bhoomi Factor

Two types of dust monitor are manufactured by Bhoomi Ltd. One is the Dual Pass Transmissometer Dust Monitor / Opacity based Dust Monitor and Triboelectric Dust Monitor.

In the paragraphs below let us find out a few main aspects of these devices concerning the following parameters.

  1. Name of the Dust monitoring system
  2. Overview
  3. Features
  4. Specifications
  5. Applications

Name of the Dust monitoring system – Dual Pass Transmissiometer / Dust Monitor, Model : BI 7000

Overview – Opacity is a measure of light attenuation ” the fraction of light lost in crossing the stack. An opacity monitor measures this value and reports it directly.

A PM monitor measures optical characteristics of the stack gas and uses the value to calculate the PM concentration in mg/m3.

Features-

  1. Unit programmable in mg/m3, mg/Nm3, and % Opacity
  2. Dual Pass for exact reading
  3. Direct measurement, In-situ type
  4. Green LED source for stability and longevity
  5. Rugged design without moving parts. The maintenance is low
  6. IP65 rating enclosure
  7. RS 485, MODBUS protocol

Specifications

  1. Stack Temperature – 300 degrees Celsius
  2. Power Supply – 110-230 VAC
  3. Air Supply – 5 to 10 m3/hr Flow & 500 mbar Pressure. It must be beyond the stack pressure.
  4. Digital Interface – RS 485, MODBUS protocol
  5. Output – 4-20mA Analog output
  6. Ambient Temperature – -20 to 50 degree Celsius
  7. Applications – Aluminum, Cement, Fertilizers, Distillery, Iron and Steel, Oil Refinery, Sugar, Tannery, Copper, Thermal Power Plants, Power Plants, Boiler, Common Hazardous Waste Incinerator etc.

Let us check the details of the other dust monitor device.

Name of the Dust monitoring system – Triboelectric Dust Monitor

Overview – The device operates on the triboelectric principle. In this, a metal sensing rod is placed in the emissions path that requires monitoring. Triboelectric detectors use an electrically isolated metallic probe placed into the ductwork to detect passing particles using the triboelectric effect. Essentially, when particles impact the probe a DC signal is created, and when particles pass near the probe (but do not impact it) an AC signal is created. The signals are then transmitted back to the controller unit, which processes the signal data and then outputs it to a display. It is easy to install and does not need setup or sensitivity adjustments. It is a cost-effective option.

Features –

  1. RS 485, supports the MODBUS protocol
  2. Unit programmable in mg/m3 & mg/Nm³
  3. Direct measurement/ In situ type
  4. No manual adjustments or alignment needed
  5. The signal is not impacted by vibration
  6. Colour of particles will not affect the signal output
  7. IP65 rating Enclosure

Specifications

  1. Resolution : 1mg/m3 display resolution
  2. Units of measurement : mg/m3, mg/Nm3
  3. Stack Temperature : -20 degrees Celsius to +121 degrees Celsius
  4. Measuring range : 0 to 1000mg/m3
  5. Material construction :SS 316
